Admissions Policy (2017-2018)

UChicago Charter School is a public school open to all Chicago students. We serve special education students, English Language Learners, talented and gifted students, and everyone else who applies. The only information needed to apply to UChicago Charter School is a student’s name, residency in Chicago, and contact information. No test scores, grades, recommendations, or behavioral history will be taken into consideration. UChicago Charter School is committed to equal treatment of all individuals. UChicago Charter School does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, gender, disability, age, sexual orientation, religion, ancestry, marital status, national or ethnic origin, or need for special education services.

All applicants must be residents of the city of Chicago. Priority admission will be given to the categories of applicants described below. Any openings available after priority applicants have been admitted will be filled by a random lottery. Waitlists for each grade level will also be established by random lottery.


North Kenwood/Oakland Campus

Applications will be accepted for prekindergarten through grade five, with openings expected in prekindergarten and kindergarten.

Admissions priority will be given to applicants for open seats in this order:

Donoghue Campus

Applications will be accepted for prekindergarten through grade five, with openings expected in prekindergarten and kindergarten.

Admissions priority will be given to applicants for open seats in this order:

Woodlawn Campus

Applications will be accepted for grades six through ten with openings expected in grade six and grade nine.

Admissions priority will be given to applicants for open seats in this order:

6th Grade:

  • 5th grade students currently enrolled at the North Kenwood/Oakland (NKO) and Donoghue (DON) Campuses.

9th Grade:

  • 8th grade students currently enrolled at the Woodlawn (UCW) and Woodson (CGW) Campuses.
  • Siblings of currently enrolled Woodlawn students.
  • Individuals who reside in Woodlawn’s attendance zone.
  • General applicants

Woodson Campus

Applications will be accepted for grades seven and eight, with openings expected in all grades.

Admissions priority will be given to applicants for open seats in this order:

  • Individuals who reside in Woodson’s attendance zone.
  • General applicants
