Admissions FAQs
The admissions process can be somewhat confusing. We have developed a collection of Frequently Asked Questions that may help you better understand our processes and procedures.
How do I apply for 9th grade?
All 8th graders will need to apply to U of C -Woodlawn High School through the GoCPS website, the new universal enrollment platform for all high schools in Chicago. Click below to learn more.
Can I deliver my application packet to the campus for which I am applying?
All completed applications may submitted via email to admissions@uchicagocharter.org or sent via postal mail to: Admissions Office, University of Chicago Charter School, 1313 E. 60th Street, Chicago, IL 60637. We do not accept faxed applications.
If my child is selected for admission, is he or she automatically enrolled?
No, if your child is selected for admission, you will be notified via email asking you to accept admission through our online application portal, SchoolMint, complete the remaining online registration forms, submit required documentation online, and pay a non-refundable school fee. Please watch for this email notification. You will lose your seat and be replaced by someone on our wait list if you fail to respond by the deadline.
How do I obtain an application?

How does sibling priority work?
Applicants receive sibling priority if siblings are currently attending any UChicago Charter School campus. Siblings must share at least one legal parent/guardian.
What happens if my child is not selected in the lottery?
If your child is not selected for admission, then your child will be placed on a wait list. We will offer enrollment to students on the wait list as spots become available.
How old does my child have to be in order to start Pre-Kindergarten?
Students must be 4 years old by or on 9/1/2020 to start pre-kindergarten at the UChicago Charter School.
Do I have to fill out more than one application if I have more than one child applying?
Yes. An application must be filled out for each applicant.
How will students be selected for admission?
Students are admitted through a random lottery, taking into consideration sibling and attendance boundary priorities.
How will I know the lottery results?
The lottery is open to the public and The UChicago Charter School’s Admissions Office sends emails to all applicants. No information will be provided by phone. For 2020-21 admissions, emails will be sent to all applicants the evening of the lottery event on March 26, 2020.
How will I know if my child is called off the wait list? When will I know?
Based on your child’s wait list number, admission priority status, and choice of campus, parents/guardians will be notified by telephone and/or email when spaces become available.
How long is the school day?
The school day runs from 8:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. (3:40 p.m. at the UChicago Charter Woodlawn campus). All campuses have an early dismissal on Wednesdays at 1:00 p.m.
