Beginning Monday, February 7, 2022, the University of Chicago Charter School (UChicago Charter) will enter Phase II of COVID-19 testing on UChicago Charter campuses. During Phase II, students will continue to be tested for COVID-19 on a weekly basis, and UChicago Charter will begin our “Test to Stay” program, which will run through at least June 18, 2022.

The program is intended to help keep our students learning in the classroom. After February 7, UChicago Charter will not be quarantining whole classes, grades, or pods because Test to Stay will allow students to continue learning in-person after an exposure in their classroom, as long as they don’t have symptoms, they wear a mask, and they test 3 times in the 7 days after exposure. Other charter schools in Chicago are using Test to Stay, and it has greatly increased time for in-person learning.

Students who are determined to have been in close contact with an individual in a campus building who tested positive for COVID-19 can stay for in-person learning so long as their parent/guardian does not opt them out from Phase II of COVID-19 testing at UChicago Charter, which includes weekly testing as well as the Test to Stay program.
