Last month, Urban Field House Media came to the UChicago Charter School Woodlawn Campus to feature the boys varsity basketball team in the High School Holla Sports Show podcast H2S2. The H2S2 team interviewed our Head Coach Ade Ajose, who led the UCW J.V. boys basketball team to a 12-0 undefeated season last year. On the podcast, Ajose discussed how he centers his coaching style around the UChicago Charter School’s core values—scholarship, leadership, excellence, and grit—by focusing on his players’ physical and mental strength on and off the court. For example, Ajose encourages his seniors to take on leadership roles by mentoring younger players and acting as role models.

H2S2 also interviewed the boys on our team about their experiences at the UChicago Charter School. UCW senior Elias Coley said, “It’s a family here. We have fun, we joke and laugh, but we know when it’s time to be serious and do our work.” The UCW Warriors basketball team finished third in the Chicago Public League Blue South Conference last year and plans to finish this season with an even stronger record. Go Warriors!
