Barron Gunnings, a member of UCW’s Class of 2017 and current University of Wooster student, was recently featured in Education Post. Barron talks about how his time at UCW made him feel that his Blackness was celebrated, with teachers and peers who supported him and encouraged him to break through societal norms and prejudices. He emphasizes how grateful he is that his UCW experience stressed the importance of attending college, noting that college has helped him expand his worldview as well as continue to have challenging conversations about his identity. After college, Barron wants to attend graduate school and start his own mentoring organization to encourage other young men to stop buying into false narratives and start crafting their own.
