The University of Chicago Charter School believes students deserve robust opportunities to explore their potential, both inside and outside the classroom. Co-curricular activities—such as Debate Team at UCW, Oratory at CGW, Media Arts at NKO and X-Block classes covering everything from journalism to sound engineering—encourage students to enrich their academic experience and develop as thinkers, learners, creators and leaders.
Specifically, the current and diverse offerings in UChicago Charter's extended day and academic enrichment programs give students: 1) opportunities to strengthen their knowledge and skills in the core academic subjects of reading and mathematics, 2) options to develop their interests in leadership, the arts, sports, digital media and science, 3) homework help, 4) tutoring and 5) mentoring. At the secondary level, our students undertake “signature projects” and "senior thesis projects". These projects are long-term research studies done by students in the humanities, sciences and social sciences. The students present their findings and recommendations to peers, parents and experts in the field.
