Technology At NKO

NKO has developed a research-based theory of action for effective use of technology to improve student achievement. Our plan is focused on systematic integration of:

  • A supplementary digital curriculum of evidence-based educational software to facilitate more efficient small group instruction and enable more individualized instruction in core academic subjects.
  • Application and creativity software to facilitate development of higher-order thinking and 21st century skills such as creativity, innovation, communication, collaboration, critical thinking, and problem solving across the curriculum
  • Comprehensive and transparent data to support ongoing instructional improvement by teachers, enable students to examine their progress and set learning goals, and facilitate more informed parent involvement in academic and social growth

Please visit the Student Resources section of this Web site to learn more about NKO's digital curriculum.

NKO currently has three to five iMac desktop computers and a SMART Board interactive whiteboard in each classroom. We also have three mobile laptop carts, each with 27 MacBooks (one for each student in a class). One of these carts is dedicated to fifth grade and the other two are shared among grades K-4 based on the academic schedule. In addition, each classroom in grades 2-4 has a full-time mini-cart containing 5-8 MacBooks. We hope to be able to expand mini-carts to kindergarten, first grade, and performing arts very soon!
