On the evening of Sunday, April 18, our very own UCW High School senior Julien Sims was featured on ABC7 Chicago for his extremely impressive accomplishments this college application season. Julien was accepted to all 25 colleges to which he applied, including Georgetown University, the University of Southern California, the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, Georgia Tech, Grinnell College, and Howard University. He amassed $1M in scholarship dollars, including a highly competitive full-tuition merit scholarship from Grinnell.

Julien’s accomplishments are a culmination of his incredibly hard work for over seven years at UChicago Charter. He has been a leader in the classroom, on the court, and in his community. He served as executive student body president as well as basketball team captain, and he and his classmate Terrance Dantzler recently worked with Professor Franklin Cosey-Gay on an editorial that was accepted for publication by the American Journal for Public Health. The editorial highlights Julien and Terrance’s insights on youth violence and the work of the Chicago Center for Youth Violence Prevention. These are just a few of the accomplishments that make Julien such an impressive young man.

We are so proud of Julien and how hard he has worked to achieve this level of success. To watch his feature on ABC7 Chicago yesterday evening, please click here.
